Thomas M. Stevens, a REALTOR® from Vienna, Va., is 2007 Immediate Past President of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. NAR, "The Voice for Real Estate," is America's largest trade association, representing more than 1.3 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
In 2006, Stevens was NAR President. In 2005, he was NAR President-elect, and was First Vice President in 2004. He has also served NAR as vice president and liaison to Government Affairs, coordinating all the committees under Government/Political Relations with the overall objectives of the association.
A REALTOR® since 1972, Stevens is a Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) and has earned the Certified Residential Broker (CRB) and the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designations.
He has been active on various NAR committees, serving as a Regional Vice President in 2001 and as 1996 committee liaison for the Law & Policy Group. He also served as chair of the Issues Mobilization Committee in 1992, the Multiple Listing Service Policy Committee in 1989 and the Large Board Sub-forum in 1987. He has been an NAR director since 1985 and is a life member of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC).
Stevens is a past president of the Virginia Association of REALTORS® and was named "REALTOR® of the Year" by the state association in 1991.
He has chaired the Issues Mobilization, Strategic Planning and the By-Laws committees of the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS®. He was named "REALTOR® of the Year" by the local association in 1986 and earned its Distinguished Service Award in 1978.
Active in the community as well, Stevens has been involved with the Wolf Trap Foundation for Performing Arts, the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, and the Cerebral Palsy Campaign of the National Capital Area.
He and his wife, Lindy, reside in Vienna, Va.
